Ive installed mintPPC on a G4 sawtooth 400Mhz with an AGP rage 128 pro.

While its usable, the X11 performance sucks, I would assume through crappy drivers. Ive tried many different settings in xorg.conf. GL performance is OK, but as soon as you drag a window or whatever, the CPU usage of xorg goes through the roof. Unfortunately, this means I cannot run vice in double size mode

If I wanted to swap to a better supported AGP card, which would be the best to get in terms of support and performance?

Go for MintPPC 11, it will improve rendering of X. I own a G4 MDD with a Radeon Pro 9000 card. That works very well.

Whats the easiest way to get from 9 to 11, now that I have it installed?

OK. so I installed 11 pretty smoothly, has a couple of small issues but generally runs ok.

2D performance on my card is just as woeful as it ever was though. Tried *everything*. Looks like the r128 driver is stuck using fbdev, which kills performance.

So, radeon pro 9000 yeh? Can you run http://noname.c64.org/csdb/release/?id=72550 at 50fps throughout in double size?

How would I run that? What do I need to try ?

sudo apt-get install vice

Then grab a firmware set, like http://www.zimmers.net/anonftp/pub/cbm/ ... oms.tar.gz and put the C64 directory in the right place (/usr/lib/vice I think).

Start the emulator with x64, attach a D64 with Alt-8........ LOAD"*",8,1

I am willing to try, I am now working on an iMac G5 with a GeForce FX 5200 Ultra card in it. I will let you know how that goes. I used to play with C64 a lot when I was young...

I don't know what to do with the disk image, as I have none, but the emulator runs at 50 fps. Can I play Giana Sisters in C64 ? I used to play that a lot
