http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powerbook_g4/stats/powerbook_g4_500.html

mr jj, since you own a PowerBook G4 500, can you check my xorg file if it needs any updates!
Thank you in advance

I would try to go for 24 bit color depth in your xorg.conf file. I am not sure if that will work though. I don't own this machine anymore...Adapt xorg.conf to make the Screen section look like this:

Code:
Section "Screen"
    Identifier    "Default Screen"
    Device        "Configured Video Device"
    Monitor        "Configured Monitor"
    DefaultDepth    24

    SubSection    "Display"
    Depth        24
    Modes        "1152x768"
    EndSubSection

    SubSection    "Display"
    Depth        16
    Modes        "1152x768"
    EndSubSection
EndSection

Code:
sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf

edited the xorg as you pointed out. ctr+x then y. checked X11 foler and found files xorg.conf, xorg.conf.save, xorg.conf.save.1, xorg.conf.save.2
I had the same problem when editing ninit.d. How to fix that?

I don't understand the problem. Just have a look with nano again if it was saved fine. Then reboot if that is the case.

The problem is that the changes I made to the xorg.conf file was saved with another file name called xorg.conf.save.2. Changes were made by nano.
I opened the xorg.conf and I didn't find the changes I made there. But when I opened the xorg.conf.save.2 I found the changes there. I also found other files named xorg.conf.save and xorg.conf.save.1.
And if I make changes again, I am sure the file gonna be named like xorg.conf.save.3, xorg.conf.save.4, ... etc
Rebooting doesn't fix the problem.

say you want to use xorg.conf.save.2, I would simply rename it into /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Code:
sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf.save.2 /etc/X11/xorg.conf

But before naming I need to review the 3 or 4 files to make all changes in one file because every time I make a change, the was named with a different name suffixed by .save, .save.1 ... etc.
So I have to see what was changed in each file.
Or is there a simpler way to do that? like consolidating all files.

Apple PowerBook G4 400 (Original - Ti)

http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/p ... 4_400.html

Find attached the requested files.

My old PB G4 TI is a bit cranky and locks up from time to time..
better performance with ppc9.2 ldxe than I was getting from 10.4.11

I have a new 40gb drive in it these days..

Hope it helps!

Regards,
Tom
