I have MintPPC 11 ready but unfortunately, Debian does not install the correct kernel modules right now. The installer is broken at the moment. I filed a bug report about it. I hope they fix this issue soon.

I found the problem, it's the new kernel module pata_macio that changes the names of the devices. We need to wait for a fix in yaboot.

What kind of new features can we expect with a move from mintPPC 9 to 11? I'm all kinds of eager to try new stuff - especially since I have practically zero files on my current machine.

If there's anything you'd like me to try, I'm more than willing to do so. My machine's primary purpose is to test out different versions of gnu/linux.

Well, Linux MintPPC 11 is based on Debian Wheezy, so expect a lot more support for newer hardware (think about newer ethernet or wireless devices, stuff like that). Furthermore, you will have a whole new desktop experience. MintPPC 11 looks a lot slicker than MintPPC 9. The only thing you have to realize is, that because of the Debian Wheezy base, some things are not working as they should yet. Debian Wheezy is the testing version of Debian. Things come and go until everything becomes stable. It is not recommended for people who need stability. It is only for those who like to be on the forefront of Linux technology. Wheezy becomes stable in 2013, just to give you an idea of the time that Debian takes to evolve. MintPPC11 is more similar to Linux Mint Debian, which is based on the even more unstable Debian sid aka Debian unstable. In some aspects, MintPPC 11 is similar to the present Ubuntu, where not everything works as it should. I just want to make clear what you can expect from MintPPC 11.
