Ibook G4 1.07 ghz, 1.25 gb RAM, 32 mb video RAM. Purchased on ebay for 80 bucks US, came with Leopard 10.5.8. Which was intolerable.

First Impressions:

Installed mint 9.2 last year on another ibook G4, and 9.3 yesterday. 9.3 install was corrupted somehow, decided to go for 11 today.

Wow. OS is faster than 9.3. Applications launch quicker, interface is much cleaner, pages in Iceweasel load faster. Downloadhelper and Flashvideoplacer extensions work great, video (360p) plays smoother than in 9.3 as well. VLC, gnome Mplayer and Totem (yeah!) are working well, out of the box. Was expecting a slower OS, slower applications, very pleased. How is this faster than 9.3?

Fans come on alot, and run for along time. Even though the ibook is not that hot. At least compared to OS X, where the fans didn't come on until I could fry and egg on the bottom case.

The major speed increases come from the new 3.x.x kernel line. 9.3 used the older 2.6.x kernel line.
