Actually, I think I led you astray a bit. I had things mixed up. I think it was the cube that used USB to power the speaker amp and therefore provided more power than normal over USB 1.1.

The iMac g4's use yet another typically Apple oddity. Instead of a standard 3.5mm jack, they have the weird little connector that sends audio and power.

That said, the only point I was trying to make is you may have to play around with what modules are actually needed for yours. If someone with it working on a G4 imac could post related lsmod output, that would be helpful.

Thanks str8bs for all your help. I'll still keep pluggin away at this. Overall, I like the mintppc 11 better than any other ppc distro I've tried. And because of that, I'll keep trying awhile longer. But for me...gotta have sound... I sincerely hope it's not a dealbreaker. If you google "wheezy no sound" you get a lot of people who are having similar problems. Maybe when wheezy becomes a little more stable a solution will present itself. If ettiquette allows, I think I will repost this problem as a sound issue, instead of multiple problems, like I did.

No problem. I'm new to Linux myself.
If sound worked in *buntu, then it should be possible. I can't imagine the kernel difference having anything to do with it.

I can't speak to preferred etiquette, but my personal opinion is separating the issue is a good idea. It might increase chances of someone recognizing a problem they have experienced and also make future searchers find it more easily.
I have a habit of mixing issues myself, so I'm trying to follow my own advice going forward. :)

Hey str8bs

With regards to your comment:

"If sound worked in *buntu, then it should be possible. I can't imagine the kernel difference having anything to do with it."

The install that I already have working 100% is *buntu 12.04 Unity 2D on a G4 ibook 1.0GHz w/1.0 GB ram. 14 inch. Works wonderfully in every respect. Just not fond of the limitations on modifying the gui. 2D is pretty static on ability to modify it. 12.04 also eats up 40-50% processing power all the time--unlike mint : )

What I'm presently having the sound probs with now is my iLamp (iMac) G4 1.2 GHz w/ 1 GB ram 17 inch. It's been very unfriendly to every version of linux I have tried to put on it. 12.04 Unity 2D wouldn't install, Lubuntu had very erratic video and programs didn't work (but sound did). Mintppc works in most respects, except sound. Slickest and fastest of all.

Anyhow, just for clarification.... Thanks again.
