Hello,

MintPPC 11 needed some modules loaded to get my iBook G4 1.42 (PowerBook6,7)'s sound card to work. But that works. Now I notice I don't have a battery meter... any suggestions here?

Sorry to respond so late, but I just found the problem. pmu_battery is no longer a kernel module which can be loaded. I reported this as a bug in the Debian bug tracking system (BTS).

Linuxopjemac; do you think there is a chance we will get the battery meter back in this version of MintPPC after posting the bug? I had my replacement battery today and i really miss it !

I would also add to that bug as someone responsible for that package closed the bug report saying that I was using a desktop and therefore I don't have the battery meter. That is BS of course but if people having laptops and ask to reopen the bug it might be solved.

So what should I do now? You open the bug message again or should I do something?

btw: in system tools -> system profiler & benchmarks -> devices / battery it says "no batteries found on this system. Is that because the module is not loaded?

Just send an email to 696881@bugs.debian.org and tell them that you use a laptop and that you have the same problem. I don't like these guys of Debian who are in charge of these packages. They are quite arrogant. I hope he reopens and starts asking questions.

This is the answer they gave

====
The bug report you're following up to is about the lack of pmu_battery
on the Debian kernel package for 64-bit PowerPC. This is not a bug,
because there are no computers with a 64-bit PowerPC processor and an
Apple PMU (so far as we know).

If you have some other problem with the pmu_battery driver in a Debian
(not Mint) kernel package, please use the reportbug command to open a
new bug report.

Ben.
====

My knowledge ends here, so hopefully there will be a solution and otherwise i work on battery until it switches off :roll:

Open a bug report yourself with the bug report program (you will find it in the menu). They will then see that the battery meter is also not present on laptops which use a 32-bits operating system.

Assuming he wasn't being arrogant, I think he may have been trying to say that it has been replaced by something else. I also think he may be assuming that MintPPC is actually part of Linux Mint and not simply based on debian.
