I'm having this issue right now. I have an iMac G4 with the nvidia card if that matters at all. When I boot from the cd I made from that .iso it pretty does nothing and than says "rebooting in 180 seconds".

It's a bummer I was hoping to get this ancient machine up and running with something that could support a modern browser (for facebooking or whatever).

{Please note that the iso topic is only for broken (unable to be downloaded) iso images, not failed installs.}

Well, if all you need is something that can support a modern browser, PPC Macs running Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger and 10.5 Leopard can use TenFourFox.

@et al:

iMacG4. Hmmmmmm. Kernel panic. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. Sounds familiar . . . .

You might trouble yourself to read through one of my posts here in the forum detailing the troubles and travails I went through to get a Linux partition set up on my iMac G4, if it seems to be necessary I can post the link at some point if you can't find it. And other folks have had issues installing Linux on the iMacG4/5 as well due to the drivers that Linux is forced to use since Pa Apple keeps its drivers proprietary. Given all the time I spent to get what wound up being a straight Debian Wheezy OS set up on my iMac, I would agree with the previous poster, right now the computer runs better using OSX 10.4.11 . . . and Camino is still supporting 10.4.11, and I have TenFour Fox as well. Wheezy is OK, but I had to switch to the "nv" driver to get the screen to work . . . and there are some "issues" . . . computer does not wake from sleep, meaning I have to boot into and out of Linux each time I want to use it, and among other things, the CD/DVD drive doesn't work . . . it's not enough of an issue to want to spend more time to fix. Largely I'm looking at the Linux system as the long range "answer" to the fact that at some point the OSX browsers will no longer support or work web sites, and Linux would then move me a little closer behind the wave of technology from 5 years to 2.5 . . . or whatever . . . . Linux is something to occupy my otherwise tattered brain in its idle moments, rather than an "out of the box" fully functional alternative OS . . . .

And, that brings me back to your stated problem . . . I also had "kernel panics" when I was trying to boot into the Linux partition, why we never found out. As I said, I have to boot into and out of the Linux system each time I want to use it, and if it hasn't been done often, it will return the "rebooting in 180 seconds" error . . . . But, actually your post is not clear as to what is happening when you try to "boot the CD" . . . the fact that you can read the error is a sign that you have gotten passed the first Yaboot login screen, and you can type "install url=mintppc.org" ???? and then there would be the CLI screen and it would be running through the list of items before hitting some errors? If no solution is found, perhaps post in detail what exactly you are doing and what happens when and maybe some of the other folks who got Mint going on the iMac can help you.

Perhaps try to re-burn the CD or try to download the .iso again and see if that changes anything. There was a problem with broken installers back at the beginning of the year but that seemed to have been fixed--perhaps you have an .iso from Jan or Feb? Good luck, and enjoy the process . . . I'm typing this in my "ancient" iMac G4 . . . but in 10.4.11 and then I can just click "sleep" and it will awaken at a mouseclick, rather than a kernel panic . . . .

e.e.p.
