I prefer LibreOffice to Abiword and Gnumeric. To install it:

1. Edit your sources list [/etc/apt/sources.list] and add this line

Code:

deb http://backports.debian.org/debian-backports squeeze-backports main

2. Run 'sudo apt update'
3. Run sudo aptitude -t squeeze-backports install libreoffice

This is very cool info, but it could probably be generalized 'how to install anything from backports'. of course using it for LibreOffice is great, but it seems the process can apply to any package in backports.

This process also applies to installing the ESR version of Iceweasel.

What is the latest libreoffice version available?

There's version 4.0.1 for ppc Mac but not for Linux? o_O

I did a fresh reinstall of MintPPC 11, which is based off of the Debian "wheezy" packages, whereas MintPPC 9.3 uses the Debian "squeeze" packages.

I don't know what version of LibreOffice is available in the "squeeze" repos, but for MintPPC 11, if I went straight into the Terminal and used apt-get to install libreoffice, I wind up with version 3.5.4.2 with Build ID: 350m1(Build:2). While I too would like the latest and greatest LibreOffice, 3.5.4.2 works pretty good, actually...

Of course it works, but import of xlsx from MS Office 2010 is really bad on that version

Anyone knows if there is any repos or ppa I can grab a newer version?
