Hi i was planning on installing linux on my Apple PowerBook G4 Aluminum. And one of my question was when reading this https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerPCFAQ#Which%20Macs%20are%20compatible%20with%20Ubuntu? its says "Powerbook G4 models with the Nvidia graphics chip: sleep is not possible, because of insufficient hardware information from Nvidia." and i was wondering if that also applies to MintPPC or if has been fix thanks.

Well, MintPPC is based on Debian Squeeze. The information you read is pretty old. Ubuntu does not support PowerPC for a long time. I would just try it out yourself. My guess is, we are now 3 years down the line, that the sleep problem has been fixed by now. What do you have to lose? OSX support for PPC based Macs is over anyway.

i've been trying to get sleep to work on my powerbook g4. didn't work right after install. I did have it working right with ubuntu 9.4 and mint 8.0
just installed cpudyn so maybe that will fix it. It's supposed to fix 'standby'

I read some problems with 12 inch G4 PowerBooks having nVidia video cards. This script might help you:

What happens if you do:
Code:
sudo pm-suspend

There are some quirks with video cards, e.g. when your monitor stays black, the card is not resumed. You might want to do:
Code:
sudo pm-suspend --quirk-vbe-post

see
Code:
man pm-suspend

pm-suspend seems to work. hibernate and suspend just put the computer into a screen saver and when i close the laptop lid the screen is still backlit and the harddrives are still spinning.

I imagine a lot of my problems are due to accidentally updating to unstable though

just do it manually:
Code:
pm-suspend

Can you file a Debian bug report about this? We want to make Debian better for PPC, right?
