This is fantastic news what I am about to spread out. I accomplished an iso based installer which, believe it or not, installed MintPPC 11 onto my Pismo. It is absolutely incredible. I am so happy. Unfortunately, we cannot use the Debian Wheezy installer as it is still broken. I spinned a CD with a Squeeze installer and it installed most of the Mint stuff (except the stuff that really depends on Wheezy). I am very very happy with this result. Now I am sure that I will be able to get it done. We only need to wait for a stable Wheezy installer....

Now, I know I reinstalled OSX Tiger on my iMac G3 no less than 2-3 months ago... but I will gladly reformat my HDD, just to give MintPPC 11 a try. :o

to speed up the development of the Wheezy debian-installer, I recommend to test the weekly builds and to report about it in debian-powerpc / debian-boot mailing list.

Edit: got a little further with this new project. I now know how to successfully run two different versions of Linux MintPPC in the repository. In MintPPC9 stuff from MintPPC11 does not get pulled in and vice versa. Apt works great now. It's pretty much what Debian and Linux Mint use themselves. I needed to use a bit more professional software to handle all those packages, as this becomes too cumbersome to do manually. I now turned to reprepro, a great tool to run different repositories.

Have a nice weekend.

why don't you just get squeeze and mintppc 9 up and then figure out a way to install wheezy and mint11 from there?

I got mintppc 9 running just fine and then did a kind of upgrade myself by putting natty narwhal repos in my repo list.

People want an iso based installer. That I can only deliver when there is a decent Wheezy installer. Of course, if it takes too long for this to happen, I will figure out another way to install Linux MintPPC 11. Time will tell.

I am getting a little sad as I see no progress in the Wheezy installer....I also tried a few things to no avail. I think I will have to turn to an installation script again for the moment...

I can also start from scratch and try to build MintPPC 11 in Squeeze with possibly the help of some backports. I can then use the Squeeze installer, which seems to work the way I want it.

I have a very nicely running Debian Wheezy with Mint 11 LXDE, so sad that I can't do what I want...I have to think what I will do.

I decided not to start from scratch as that involves a LOT of work. I have a full repository of Wheezy packages which may be installed in a Wheezy environment. So, I will experiment with a base Wheezy system, onto which the MintPPC packages will be installed. It will not be as easy as an installer like Ubuntu, but hey, I don't have the knowledge to repair a broken Debian installer. I can however assure you that this system is very pleasing for the eyes.

In the future when the installer works, I can focus again on a real iso based installer. But looking at the emails arriving in my post box with respect to Wheezy-installer bug squashing I am afraid that it will take a long time. I just learned from the Debian Installer team that they don't really feel the hurry as it has to become stable in 2013! Well, I don't have the time for that!

Will keep you updated...

SAD NEWS. I demolished my last Pismo today (I demolished three so far). It's because I have to switch disks so many times that, probably, the hard disk controller got upset. I don't have any powerpc machine left. This means that I can't go on working on MintPPC, unless I buy another PPC computer. If you want a new version I advise you to make a little contribution so I can buy a desktop G4 or so, one which I can easily swap hard disks in. Would be nice if you have some advise on that...

That is not SAD news, its completely tragic news. Powermac G4's are going for under a hundred bucks, G5's for two hundred bucks in the US on ebay now, surely one can be found for not much cash over there?

Your paypal site is in dutch and is confusing to a English speaker like I. Could not even find the United States in the drop down list. Is there any other way we can donate to this project, it must continue!
