I'm in single user mode right now (g4 is beside me.) When i type in wget http://mac.linux.be/files/xorg/g4_1.txt

I get a message saying "unable to resolve host address 'mac.linux.be'

are you wired to the router ?

Yes. According to ifconfig, i'm on local loopback. I'm not sure how to make it connect to the internet.

what is the output of ifconfig ?

I tried to run apt-get update, to see if anything would connect. It did not

I don't have a way to copy and paste the info, so here goes..

I checked ifconfig for some sort of command to reboot the network device. No luck for me yet.

I restarted the networking service, but I still could not connect. I rebooted again back into single user mode. Checked the /etc/network/interfaces file to make sure the changes were there - they were.

Still no connection.

ifconfig shows the same information as before.
