Hi,

i previously posted this topic : viewtopic.php?f=15&t=644
i finally was able to install mintppc 11 on my PowerPC G5 (http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/p ... 5_1.8.html) without nouveau driver, so without 3D effects.

I have 2 of these PowerPC that are exaclty the same (except the amount of RAM, one with 2,5Go and the other with 3Go)

This said, i installed mintppc 11 on the second G5 and everything ran ok... BUT it won't boot after install. (blank screen with folder logo with "?" blinking)

Something seem to go wrong with boot strap. I reserved an apple boot sector (1Mo) in my partition table but it is like there is no bootable media found at boot.

i tried to reinstall but with no luck

am i missing something ?

can you post how your partition table looks like?

Code:

mac-fdisk /dev/name

and then p
for print

Maybe the installer did not correctly see everything. Did you do a manual partitioning or did you let the installer do its job?

Do you have more than one drive in the G5 ?

sorry i don't have access to this machine right now.
I have only one disk (120Go seagate) and i did a manual partitionning :

1 Mo -> Newworld boot partition
10 Go -> / (ext4)
5 Go -> (swap)
100 Go -> /home (ext4)

yeah that's what i was thinking...
does the Newworld partition need to be flagged as bootable manually ?

The installer should have done that automatically. You can still do it from the installer in rescue mode I guess. This is how my scheme looks like on the G5 iMac:

i've just run rescue, reinstalled yaboot in the root partition(11), still no joy:-( since booting from o/f seems to require an HFS partition where the kernel and yaboot files are, and my root partition is not hfs, does that mean the default install guided partition has failed to create the bootstrap partition?

just installed mppc11 on my titanium g4 viewtopic.php?f=10&t=631&p=5118#p5118 and it has deteriorated from perfect to black screen:-( anybody have a suggestion?
