hi there, new user, Linux noob, but willing to learn.

So i got this old Ibook here, running like crap with OS X 10.3.9. Read some info, and installed Ubuntu. Slow as the Mac software. Then tried Debian. Fast and responsive. After a bit more of google-fu arrived at MintPPC. Works fast, and waaay better than 10.3.9

However, my graphics are running in software rasterizer mode.
My brother, who works with linux, helped me to install a xorg.conf downloaded from the web (link in this site). I downloaded a Ibook G4 1.2 12 inch, and it loaded properly (as in aplied the settings and everything works), but still no good about the SR graphics. Looking at some info on System Profiler, it seens that my Ibook is a 1.0 12 inch, with a Radeon 9200 card. The xorg downloaded call for some Radeon 9600. Where i can found some info about those settings, and what i might try to change to see if it works?

By the way, my accents don't work with my keyboard (normal US layout). Where i can configure this?

Thanks in advance, and sorry if those were stupid questions. I'm still a baby at this Linux thing, and some proper guidance is needed for a health growth.

PS: sorry about some english errors. Not a native speaker.

keyboard:
login as root
Code:
dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration

Radeon 9600 vs 9200 does not make a big difference. Graphics are not so well supported under Linux / PPC. You have to live with that as there are no natively built drivers for any of the graphic cards out there. This was only done for Linux / x86.

You might want to fiddle with the xorg.conf file for Radeon (Arch has some good info):

Technically speaking, aren't all iBook G4's obscure? :)

As JD mentioned, don't worry about the "identifiers" you see in xorg.conf. That is just text naming a variable used by other sections within the xorg.conf file.

For some reason, I have OCD with graphics but don't claim to be an expert. If you want to post the xorg.conf you are using and /var/log/Xorg.0.log, I'll try to help get hardware rendering. Your card is supported in Mesa 8, so it should be possible.

I'm a product of US public schooling which means your English is BETTER than mine. :)
